My kids had this toy and I have sent it as gifts. It is always popular. My kids loved slicing the items in the box. Also, my son had some occupational therapy needs and this toy was great for developing hand strength.
Wonderful toy, very durable!

I bought this for my daughter when she was 2.5, and she still plays with it (she’s 7 now). The velcro is good quality, and the cutting sounds are relatively realistic. It has provided hours of fun, imaginative play. The velcro still sticks, even after 5 years, and the paint hasn’t faded. Great product!
Melissa and Doug has done it again!

My 2 year old son absolutely loves this toy. We originally discovered it as speech therapy, and since he liked it so much, we bought it for him to play with at home. The wooden pieces are high-quality and make a satisfying “crunch” sound when cut. We liked it so much that we also purchased the cutting fruit crate which is also made by Melissa & Doug.
Bigger than you think – and bigger is better

We love this toy. It is sometimes with her playroom kitchen, and sometimes in my real kitchen. The little crate it comes in is very cute, but we keep the pieces in a shoe box with a lid, because sometimes my 2 year old shakes it in transit. I also have a 2 month old, and I’m planning on taking the carrot out of the set when the baby starts crawling, because it could be a choking hazard, but the other than that it should be fine. My 2 year old loves cutting the pieces, and says she’s “yust yike momma” when she has them out.
I gave 4 stars for educational, but it could have been 5, because I like that, besides working on motor skills, all of the food is healthy, and so it’s emphasizing good food choices.
Had for almost a year, and still plays with it.

My 2 year old got this for Christmas last year, and loves it, he plays with it all the time, pretending to cook meals for mom dad and sister. Especially loves the idea of getting to cut the veggies. Id buy this as a gift for someone else.
Great Toy!

I’ll keep this short since there are so many other reviews. We just gave this to our two year old for her birthday. It says for three years plus, but she’s had the cheap cutting plastic food and we wanted to upgrade. The plastic doesn’t last long with little kids, it gets stepped on and broken pretty easily. My daughter got this at her birthday party and was a hit with the kids from then on. It’s always in the middle of the living room floor because someone is always playing with it. Some of the paint was already on the cutting board after the first night, but that’s not a surprise after reading the other reviews. It’s tough being a toy these days.
fun toy for 2 year old girl

I purchased this toy for my 2 year old niece based on the rave reviews. My sister tells me that her daughter LOVES it so much! She says it is one of her favorite birthday gifts. My sister is planning on giving the same gift to my daughter who will be 2 in a few months.
Boycott Melissa & Doug

Have you read the WSJ article “What Won’t You Do for a Job?” where Melissa & Doug are highlighted as putting applicants through an interview process so grueling that one job seeker left in tears. The article states that candidates must bring their lunch and three years of W-2 statements. W-2 statements? You have to be kidding me. People feel bad enough about being unemployed these days and Melissa & Doug Toys make them beg and jump through hoops for a job.
I for one will not be purchasing anymore Melissa & Doug products going forward and will be lobbying everyone to boycott their products as well. I am sure that you know someone who has been effected by the economic downturn and who has lost his or her job.
