Not so Durable

Thought these would be great for play, especially in my daughter’s play house. However, the paint on these is not long wearing. The paint has chipped off and peeled away after getting wet outside and my son using them as a teething toy for short durations before you see that he has found them.Not what you really want. Surprised as the Melissa and Doug toys are usually pretty great quality.

I was searching for something that would be educational and entertaining for a 3 1/2 year-old when I found this wooden sandwich-making set. I bought it on sale, so I got a great price and a great item, too! The set is very well made and durable. It was great for the toddler because he enjoys pretending, he’s working in the kitchen. . .little did he know he was also learning something with the set, also!

Good price and service. Melissa and Doug make an excellent toy very durable and realistic appearance. My grand daughters love all their toys. Would recommend and will purchase from this vendor again.

My kids have had fun with this set. It’s been put through some serious abuse but has not experienced any peeling or chipping. The slices are thick — approaching 1/2 inch — so the resulting sandwiches often look absurdly tall like something Shaggy would swallow in Scooby Doo. The bread, cheese, pickles, and tomatoes are decent approximations but there are some pink lozenges that don’t make much sense — ham perhaps.
One issue that crops up, although I don’t really know how it could be remedied, is the small velcro circle that binds the sandwich together while providing the gratifying chop sound when rent apart with the wooden knife. It quickly looses its effectiveness over time and attracts all manner of junk – hair and fuzz. I have this issue with most velcro-fitted M&D toys. Not the end of the world.
Melissa and Doug toys, even handsome wood ones like this, are made in China. That doesn’t mean that it is laden with toxins — the corporate site assures otherwise — but I do find it disappointing. When I see a company like Melissa “& Doug with wood toys, cute, craftsy labeling, and words like “handcrafted”, it evokes a feeling of refreshing escape from the great heaps of cheap, electronic plastic garbage flooding the shelves of the local super-store. There’s not much of a point to this last paragraph except to say I’m sure M&D could manufacture their goods here and pay more for a union worker but gain so much more in respect.

We bought this for our 5 year old Granddaughter and it was a huge success. She loves to play “pretend” games and we spent hours tasting various sandwich combinations. Great for a child with an active imagination.

I purchased this set along with four other sets and a food stand for my son for his birthday. He wanted to open a store and sell things. He has really enjoyed making sandwiches and selling his food to his brothers and his father and I. The set is a good size and has been played with in our house by girls and boys ages one to nine, not to mention how much I have played with it with them. Highly recommended.

My first experience with Melissa and Doug wood toys and I am very satisfied. I hope the velcro holds up. Bought this for my 2 year old grandson and he knew what to do with it right away, and how to use the knife to cut his sandwich apart.

If your kids likes to actually try to eat thier play food. These products are great for you! I also have the Step 2 101 piece and within a day or soo he already had a quite a few chewed! Other than that he plays with the wooden food so much more! This was worth every penny to use with his toy grill!

I have a daughter that is blind and has other disabilities and this is perfect for her. My 4 year old enjoys them very much as well.
