Get Ready to Show off Your Child's Photos It's clear right out of the packaging that this camera was designed to stand up to tough play and rough handling. Bright blue rubber grips on each side make it easy for children to grasp the camera with both hands, and two-eye viewing make it easy to conceptualize a photo or a cool video. The camera even comes with two interchangeable faceplates, so your child can pick her favorite look. Before your child starts taking photos, you'll need to use a Phillips screwdriver to insert four "AA" batteries in the grips of the camera. While the first few photos are being taken, you may want to set up the VTech Photo Editor on your computer. An intuitive installation wizard makes this process quick and easy. You'll need Windows 2000 SP3+/XP or newer to use this software. And don't despair if you're a Mac user. As long as you have Mac OS X 10.0 or above, you can still use the camera in mass storage mode. Inspire Creative Development Six buttons and a navigational joystick on the back of the camera let your child pick a mode and scroll through old photos. Between taking photos, shooting videos, and playing simple games on the 1.8-inch color screen, there's lots to do. A built-in flash makes it easier to get well-lit pictures, especially if the subject of the photo is indoors. The flash does, however, often fire if you are trying to take a close-up shot, resulting in very bright, blown-out pictures. Inexperienced photographers may need to be reminded that the camera is not designed to focus on objects that are less than 1.5-feet from the camera. For super-sized fun, you can also link the camera to your television using the included A/V cable and view creative work on the big screen. With 16MB of internal memory and an SD card slot so that you can add capacity if you need it, this camera lets kids collect lots of images. The included USB cable lets you upload the images to your computer. The VTech photo editor lets you or your child add cool frames to photos, stamp funny hats on people, and distort images. You can even run fun animations that makes the photo look like it is rotating or underwater. The photo editor interface is easy to use, with big round buttons for kids to click on and drag-and-drop stamps. More advanced artists may be disappointed that there aren't more ways to creatively control output, but files from the Kidizoom can easily be edited in more advanced programs, too. What's in the Box Camera with 16MB internal memory, wrist strap, A/V cable, USB cable, two faceplates, and photo editing software on CD-ROM. View larger. View larger. View larger. Easy-to-use VTech photo editor lets you or your child add funny hats to pets and distort images. Kids today live in a world of instant gratification: DVDs that skip to a favorite scene; CDs that play and repeat a favorite song; digital cameras that show a picture seconds after taking it. And while the VTech Kidizoom may not teach the valuable lesson of patience, it is a cool camera meant specifically for small children so they can experience the immediate joy of taking pictures, making movies, and playing games. Ideal for ages 3 to 6 years, this toy lets your child explore and cultivate their creative streak. The digital camera has fat bumper handles perfect for small hands, big buttons for manageability, a dual viewfinder and a 1.8-inch color LCD screen for easy subject alignment, and two interchangeable face plates so kids can make it their own. It's also made ultra-tough to handle the guaranteed mishaps that come with the territory. But enough about its attractive looks and kid-friendly features. A dual viewfinder, large LCD screen, and chunky buttons make this ideal for young ones. The Kidizoom is able to capture up to 120 still photos or up to 5 minutes of video thanks to its 16MB internal memory. If that's not enough space for your little shutterbug, the camera also provides an SD card slot. Once pictures are snapped (or motion is filmed), you can plug the device into a PC or the family TV with the included cable. From there kids can crop their photos, give images crazy effects, add wacky frames, or watch their video footage. If you're on the go and there's not much picture-taking interest, the Kidizoom may still be your child's preferred toy. It has three fun built-in games geared toward preschoolers and comes with a set of headphones that plug into its side. Say "Cheese!" (Four AA batteries are required but not included.) VTech Kidizoom features: .3 megapixels with 1.8" color screen Double viewer or LCD screen for easy photo taking Connector cables for TV or PC hook-up Photo editing capabilities SD card slot for extra memory Three preschool games Changeable faceplates 16MB internal memory Features

Durable Camera, Lousy Quality
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
My 5-year-old son likes this camera’s design and has developed quite a discerning photographic eye after about a year of use. It is very durable and has survived a couple of hard falls to the ground.
He and I are quite disappointed, however, in the resulting image quality. I’m not expecting professional quality here, but this camera has extremely low resolution — worse than most cell phone cameras. The images are watery and practically unrecognizable. I don’t why manufacturers of kids’ products routinely cut back on quality and assume it doesn’t matter to kids. Even a 2 megapixel sensor would dramatically improve the overall experience. I would have rather spent the money on a $90 Kodak EasyShare or similar “real” camera and taken my chances with droppage/damage.
Scored a hit with great nephew

Vtech – Kidizoom Digital Camera – Orange
Whenever you pick up your cell phone or camera, there are always pictures on them that you don’t recall taking. Turns out that my great-nephew who is not quite 3 yrs. loves to take pictures of everything. Even though he’s a little young, I decided to buy it for Christmas and he could grow into it. Christmas morning was too much fun. Normally children his age just rip into their gifts and move on. He opened my gift first and that was it. He had to be ‘forced’ to open his other gifts, and as each gift was opened, he had to put it on the coffee table to take its picture before moving on to the next gift. He was having so much fun with it, he did not put it down until his family had to leave. He has taken it to daycare and photographed his friends. He loves it, and no more ‘mystery’ pictures on your cell and camera. It fits perfectly in his little hands and as he matures, I’m certain he will enjoy the other features loaded on the camera. It was quite entertaining to hook up to the TV and be able to see all the pictures he had taken. Made for quite a memorable Christmas!
kids love it
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The kids love this camera, but for some reason still prefer to play with mine! Only thing I didn’t like is that the view-finder doesn’t line up with the image that is taken in the picture. The kids love that you can add silly faces, hats, etc to the subject and the fact that the camera has games too! So far nothing has broke, even standing up to the test of my two kids! Would recommend to a friend.
Very good camera for kids.

We bought this camera for our two year old son, as a gift from his new-born sister. Well actually as a replacement for his Polaroid PIXIE-piece-of-junk. We really wanted the Fisher Price Kids Tough Waterproof but couldn’t find it on a Target store, so we bought this. I took some pictures and the quality is not bad for a 1.3MP camera (like my first Cybershot), i would say ok since my boy is only 2 years-old he won’t be looking for picture quality. With the flash there seems to be always overexposure. The movie feature is also ok for a kid. The games are a little bit too much for a 2 year-old but ok for his mom!
The only thing I found as a defect is that joystick-stile control on the back of the camera, I don’t think is tough enough for a kid to play with it, but hey it has survived for 3 months and I hope it will last much longer.
The hit of Christmas…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Oh my… These were the hit of my daughters’ Christmas! They love these cameras (I bought two, one for each daughter) and have played with them non-stop. They have run the batteries down twice each, but this is due to constant use verses the cameras sucking battery power. These cameras have been dropped, taken to sleep-over, and played with outside; to say they are durable is an understatement. My girls like the video feature the best. The photo quality isn’t the best, and the videos are choppy, but they don’t seen to care. I would highly recommend this camera as first for any budding photographer.
A Winner

We purchased the Vtech-Kidizoom Digital Camera for our Grandson. I had done a lot of research on children’s digital cameras. We were not disappointed with our pick. Our three year old grandson loves his camera. He is learning how to improve his pictures. We especially like the two eye viewing, the location of the button, and the ease of use. The camera’s pictures are not perfect, but he is getting a great experience. He loves it!!!
okay camera – didn’t last, pictures not great
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We liked the camera went it was given to us, and it seemed very kid friendly. However we were disappointed by the photo quality, and also by the fact that after we had had it for a few months, it just stopped working. We had never subjected it to tremendous abuse or dropped in water, and don’t know what happened. We changed the batteries and that didn’t fix the problem. We are now unfortunately looking for another kids camera. We will not buy this camera again.
Cool camera for little kids
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my son’s 3rd birthday. His dad is a professional photographer and the baby camera we had gotten him 2 years ago no longer held his interest. I liked this because it was not too expensive and it was said to be resistant to easy damage. I like the bright color so it is easy to find. The led screen is large enough to view the pictures. I like that the kids can either use the led screen or look through the double view finder to take a picture. My son is too little to play the games and do all the other fun activities that come with the camera yet, but this way he can grow into it. It does not take the best quality of pictures, but it serves the purpose of letting a kid explore his world through a camera.
Amazingly durable!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This camera is an all-time favorite with my 5 year-olds. They especially enjoy creating their own movies.
One of my boys fully immersed his camera in water, and we thought it would never work again. We dried it out thoroughly, and amazingly, it still works!
As others reviewers mentioned, you might consider getting at least one set of 4 rechargeable double A batteries. If your kids like using the film feature, you might consider getting a memory card, too.
This camera breaks. Often.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Well, I really liked this camera while it was still working. The pictures were kinda blurry, but they were fun for the kids. And my kids, no way are they touching my camera, so it was nice that they could actually take pictures of eachother, play games, and generally be rough on it.
Except it broke. After about a month for no apparent reason it stopped working. Pretty much first time I changed the batteries it was gone. I tried everything even pressing the nearly invisible reset button on the bottom. Then I called Vtech and they mailed me a new camera.
After they played with it for about a month, well, then it died. So I tried to change the batteries again. To no avail.
For a product that is supposed to simply be durable our sure hasn’t worked for long at all. And I know for certain that it was never dropped in a toilet or gotten wet. It was dropped a couple of times, but generally we tried to take good care of it. I don’t understand why it works so inconsistently.
Compared to say, the leapsters which we have dropped several hundred times and they are still running great.
