ok toy, but not great
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I got this toy for my 3 year old. She likes it overall, but it is difficult to get the items to scan correctly, if it scans at all. She likes the credit card scan and play money. It is built well, very solid construction, but the scan feature needs improvement.
Cute but not educational

My 4 1/2 yr old son got this for xmas. He loves Dora. I was a little disappointed in that the scanner does not scan the items correctly each time (about 1/3 times correct). My son did not care or notice, but that is why I say NOT educational. I agree that the writer thing on the side is useless..can’t read a thing with it. I do really like the price tag idea though and my son tags things around the house and ‘scans’ them and sells them to daddy. I thought it was broken at first, but there is an ON/OFF button on the front that my son kept pushing and it wouldn’t work! Once he learned not to push it, we were all set. It did include batteries, which was a nice perk. Seems to be durable..just that writer thing on the side and the scanner could be improved, though my son really doesn’t care and loves the register!
Good concept, but it’s just a disappointment

The scanner has to be perfectly lined up with two tiny triangles and on a flat hard surface to work (according to the instructions). What little kid can do that??? We are very disappointed, and our son get very frustrated that the scanner does not announce the correct items. In my opinion, this toy is really a piece of junk.
Better than others say

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. I was a little worried because of other reviews, but on Christmas day, she loved it. She has never put it down since and it works just fine. And it’s not as loud as others say. Great toy.
Great toy

Our 5 year old received this for Christmas. She loves it! The cash register will add all the items she scans. She also uses the number keys and adds them in. The microphone isn’t loud though. Over all she enjoys it.
Buy Something Else!

This toy does not work well. It doesn’t scan the correct item half the time, and it’s just not worth the $40 dollars I paid for it. My girls have enjoyed it, but probably only because it talks and sounds like Dora. I usually like to read reviews before I purchase something like this, but I took my 3 year old out on her birthday and this is what we came home with. Please do not support this item and maybe they will revisit and fix it. It has good concepts, but just isn’t made well. Read the other reviews about what is wrong with this.

The toy arrived in only two days as promised. Packaged well and all in one piece. Thanks. My granddaughter who is just 5, was thrilled with her toy cash register and loves to play pretend shop-keeper. I wish there was a real calculator attached to help with the math learning experience. I know it would be more expensive but I think very much helpful in the long run. J.B.
Disappointing, there are better choices
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This toy is not an ideal teaching aid to help kids learn about money and purchasing. First off, the scanner has to be lined up so exactly in order to work that most times even an adult can’t get it to scan the right item. This throws the totals off unless you quickly clear it. The LCD display is only a sticker, with no running total. The cash drawer has only three slots for bills and none for coins, but there are four different denominations of bills and there are two very unrealistic looking coins. They look like cylinders and you only get one 10 and one 5 cent coin, although there are prices that end in .50 cents. You can’t write on the credit card signature pad, which could have been very easy to make right, they just didn’t. Even the activities are organized in such a way as to take the challenge out of finding the right items. If you really want something educational in the same price range, look for a register with a working LCD, that also works as a calculator and specially that can also be a child’s piggy bank and help them count and maintain a total. There are better choices out there.
Poor quality – Dissappointing for my child. Would not recommend!

I could’ve purchased 2 of the cheaper cash registers and been more satisfied. The “UPC” codes in the book that the register is supposed to read do not work properly. My child must line up the arrows on top to get it to even say anything, and most of the time it says something different than what the code is supposed to be for. Another inconvienent thing about this is that there is no storage for all the upc code tags, so they get lost easily. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Save your money and buy a cheaper, less complicated one that kids can just play with without the aggrivation. All kids really want to do is scan things, hear the ‘beep’ noises, and play with the money.

this was a birthday present it was a cool toy and fun to play with. the only problem was that the machine can not read the scanner thing. i would recommend this for a 4,5,or6 year olds.
